Top 4 Myths of Weight Loss

One of the reason why so many people find losing weight to be so difficult is the result of so much confusing and contradictory information and opinions and down-right misleading information out there. How many times have you read a resource about how to lose weight only to find that it directly contradicts something that you just read a few minutes before?

Lets try and set some of these difficulties right by hitting some of these nonsense stories on the head

Weight Loss is Complicated

There is nothing complicated about weight loss. The basics on how to set up a weight loss program and the rate at which the body can lose weight is scientifically determined. What makes it complicated is all contradictory and misinformation and latest greatest newest discovery from some ancient lost formula.

Really, some of the simplest programs for weight loss often turn out to be the most effective, due to the fact that they have very few ‘frills’ and ‘unneeded extras’ which complicate the program and provide you with no clear cut guidelins and directions.

Crash Diets Are the Best Way to Lose Weight Fast

Regularly the latest crash diet or product formula is thrown out and promises that you will lose an enormous amount of weight in a flash and overnight at that. The trouble is that your body has certain physical limits to the speed at which it can lose weight and process nutrients. The 'booster market' would lead you to believe that you can trick your body and get around some of these constraints. The problem is that even if you could eat nothing, your your BMR has constraints to which it can consume calories and fats.

The claims of big losses, generally result in rapid water and lean muscle loss, so you may think you are losing 'fat' when in actual fact you are only experiencing a temporary weight loss. Unfortunately, this will all come back again and can sent you into a yo-yo effect spiral resulting in weight gain, not weight loss over time.

Almost all of these crash diets and supplements don’t work, and if they do, their results are often temporary and reversible and any weight that you lose ends up coming back, sometimes with a vengeance.

Crash diets, or more accurately rapid weight loss diets are useful to 'kick-start' a diet program, help you recover from a 'relapse or 'breakout' a plateau. But they generally are so restrictive and boring that it is very hard to sustain them for more than 14 days. A simple, but effective 'quick start diet which works as long as it is no longer than 14 days at the most is available on the adjacent side bar for your use.'

All Fat is Bad For You

While it is true that fat contains more calories, it does not necessarily mean that fat is automatically converted into body fat. Your body needs fats to function properly and these 'healthy' have a beneficial effect on the brain and for inflamation mangement . In fact, fats are more likely to help you feel ‘full’ (satiated) faster, and thus stop you from overeating.

Only certain types of fats, i.e. trans fats, are really bad for you and these should be avoided, but avoiding all fat is definitely not something worth doing.

To Diet You Need to Measure Every Calorie Consumed and Burnt

Again, this is completely untrue. The funny thing is people can put on and lose weight on both high and low calorie diets. The key lies in the source of the calories and their effect on the insulin level in the blood sream which will determine whether you lose or gain body fat. In the end you do need to reduce calories, yes, but you don’t need to be precise and account for every last calorie in the food you eat. Neither do you need to calculate exactly how many calories you burn.

Instead, so long as you’re eating a healthy and wholesome diet, while still keeping your calorie count as low as you can, you’ll be fine.

Now that you know that all these four myths are exactly that – myths, you should be able to see that weight loss really isn’t about complicated diet programs or designer diet pills. All you need is some knowledge and the ability to develop a healthy eating plan and you should find that you will naturally balance and manage your weight over time!
